Laurence Rees’ masterpiece is revealing in three ways. First, it is based not only on the latest academic research, but also on 25 years of interviewing survivors and perpetrators, often at the sites of the events, many of whom have never had their words published before. Second, the book is not just about the Jews - the Nazis would have murdered many more non-Jews had they won the war - and not just about Germans. Which holocaust was this though ? Was it the one in the very early 1900s in Russia where 6 million Jews were holocausted or the nazi one where another 6 million Jews were killed by being gassed in fake shower rooms with wooden doors, put in cages with a bear and an Eagle, masturbated to death, made to run up steps wearing a backpack full of rocks until they dropped and then turned into lampshades and cleaning products ?

It appears to be the nazi one dear readers. An absolute tragedy that the British people were solely responsible for. Churchill knew about auswitz but refused to bomb the railway tracks taking innocent Jews to the camps and because the British people voted him into power that means they are solely responsible. Although Churchill did try to make amends by giving the Jews the British protectorate of Palestine which became Israel just after the end of WW2 it wasn’t nearly enough. Besides Palestine wasn’t Churchill’s to give away.

Sorry, Robbie. Churchill was not elected to the office of Prime Minister until 1951, by which time Israel had already claimed a foothold in Palestine (1948). Churchill was appointed leader of the Conservative party in Parliament in May 1940, 8 months after war was declared and was dismissed by the electorate in July 1945. Perhaps you are referring to the Balfour Declaration, the means by which the UK encouraged the Jewish population of the USA to encourage their government to enter the first World War in 1917?
Perhaps this is a sign that you should listen to a few more history books with a more open and attentive mind?

Oh I beg your pardon sir. I was under the impression that Churchill was elected prime minister for the first time in May 1940 and for the second time in 1951.
At least that is what the history books say. I appreciate your revisionist history may be incorrect so I would suggest you read some non revisionist history books. I only listen/read factual books, difficult as that may be to some facts are pretty stubborn when it comes to things like the truth. However education is constant so I thank you for your attempt to educate me. Although since you couldn’t get the basic facts correct as to when Churchill was first elected in may 1940 I will disregard any further such education from you.
Take this as a sign that you need to educate yourself further before attempting to educate others on a subject your knowledge is so clearly lacking

Ah, I see what you did there to make me look wrong. Technically you are correct. Churchill was not elected. He was installed as prime minister in May 1940. In British politics a prime minister isn’t actually elected like a US president would be. In UK election constituents elect a representative from a political party, the party with the most representatives wins power and the leader of that party becomes prime minister. In the UK we do not elect a prime minister. Nice try at obfuscation though.

Actually you are both wrong. Britons never actually vote for their prime minister. Whomever happens to be the head of the political party in Parliament when it becomes the majority automatically becomes prime minister.

More of your historical buffoonery: “Which holocaust was this though?” - The Holocaust (Shoah) is a sui generis, discrete event. You don’t get to choose your Holocausts (although you would doubtless relish the opportunity). The event is even identified in the description. Given that you tirelessly consume “factual books,” you really ought to be conscious of this most notorious historical event.

I’m aways open to education from others especially when it comes to history, an academic subject open to interpretation but I generally find ‘revisionist’ history is not based on irrefutable facts but emotions borne from hatred.
Remember that the history books are written by the winners of conflicts and as such only represent a one sided view. Which is why debate is crucial. As such I welcome your invaluable input sir.

Again, the forms must be followed. Whoever can command a majority (whether single party majority, minority govt or coalition) is invited by the monarch (in UK, Royal Prerogative) to form a govt, they are officially appointed (after the election, of course). It is necessary to secure a majority of seats in the Commons. Prior to these events the assumption may operate.
Historically, a Monarch could dismiss a PM & make a personal choice of successor. Today it’s for political parties to determine & communicate clearly their decision. Other parliamentary systems have different rules of procedure.
