A multilimbed shapeshifter, it slaughters anything that threatens it or the pack of companions it has sworn to protect, including Emhreeil; her human friend, Katherine; and a goblin known as Scruffy.

All three are grateful for the wolf’s guidance but frightened of its growing power. And as the team navigates warring factions battling for control of a dungeon labyrinth, they discover one of those factions wants to ally themselves with their party. This partnership would allow them the means to telepathically communicate with their savage leader—and access a ritual blood spell to make the wounded Emhreeil whole once more, an offer they can’t refuse.

As the two groups join forces, Emhreeil undergoes a physical transformation as uncanny as the wolf’s: now she’s a winged elven vampire, consumed with bloodlust and evolving into an immortal being. Although powerful, her healing comes at the cost of her humanity. With each victory won against monsters and hunters living in the dungeon, she descends further into madness. And as she and the wolf prove themselves as apex predators, they begin to reach toward a godhood that Katherine and Scruffy don’t—and can’t—share.

But their enemies still stalk them. The dungeon lord Baron Manos Ironheart will stop at nothing to make the wolf his personal weapon, and Emhreeil’s volatile mother, Marquess Irythiel, has massacred a dungeon noble’s family in a quest to find her daughter. As these threats and more close in, the wolf and his pack know they must break out of the underground labyrinth . . . and take the fight to the surface once and for all.
